Calico Basin Wildflower Hike; Approximately 2.5 miles
I wanted to hit the ground running in the hiking department, so one of the first things I did after arriving in Vegas, was look up some guided hikes being offered at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
Red Rock is one of my absolute favorite places to visit whenever I’m in the area and while we have an apartment here, I’d like to try and hike all 25 official trails.
First on the list: Calico Basin, guided by Liz, a volunteer who knows her s*** about wildflowers!
Seriously, Liz is freakin’ awesome and I was so lucky to end up on one of her hikes right off the bat. Especially, because in a few days later, she’ll be off to Hawaii for a couple of weeks!
Calico Basin is a super easy hike that is short and sweet. We saw about 25 different varieties of plant life during our hike, which I thought was a lot, but Liz said was a small number – on some of her hikes, she sees closer to 100 different types of plants – whoa!
(I loved hiking with Liz so much that I already signed up for another one of her hikes tomorrow morning.)
