There’s a big grassy field located next to El Morro Fort in Old San Juan where a constant airflow blows off of the ocean. People of all ages gather here daily to see how high they can fly their kites!
On weekends, there are easily hundreds of people hanging out on the grass and enjoying the day; their kites soaring high up into the blue sky, some with long tails and others taking the shapes of various animals; butterflies, birds, dragons…minions.
The views from here are spectacular. On one side, you have the historical fort with its brick walls and stark grey exterior rising against the turquoise ocean, and on the other side you have the colorful buildings of Old San Juan. Everywhere in between is green grass.
There are vendors walking the streets selling cotton candy, ice cream, and all sorts of other goodies – like new string for your kite when you accidentally get it tangled beyond repair.
Let’s go fly a kite, Up to the highest height. Let’s go fly a kite, And send it soaring…Up through the atmosphere, Up where the air is clear. Oh, let’s go fly a kite…
