Thursday, the Pencey Spring 2013 collection was presented at The Grey Lady in the Lower East Side. The presentation included, Mia Moretti x Pencey, a 10 piece jazz-era inspired capsule collection designed by Pencey’s Christina Minasian and DJ Mia Moretti.
They based the collection around the perfect pant and added on blouses and blazers to pair with them. For Mia, designing the prints with Christina was very much like writing a story: Their characters, Eva Peron (the face print) and Josephine Baker (the banana leaf print) came to life, inspiring them as they expanded the line. Eva ushered them into an age of sophistication – she was a symbol of hope, a woman of untiring power and beauty. Josephine danced into their hearts with a wink, loosened their collars, lightened their moods, played gently with their fears, freeing them of the standards imposed on them as women during the early 20th century. In their story, women are strong, and also beautiful; they’re elegant and still sexy, powerful whether buttoned up or loosened up.
The show featured hair by Marcos Diaz for Ion Salon, make up by Jason Kaplan for Dior, and women’s kicks by Converse. At the event, guests enjoyed Vida Tequila cocktails. Photo gallery after the jump.
Attendees at the presentation included Mia Moretti, The Indecent (Band), Cory Kennedy (DJ/ Model), Scott Lipps (President of ONE Management), Jake Hoffman, Johnny Wujek, and more.

Founded in 2007, Pencey is a collaboration between designer Christina Minasian and business partner Alan Mak. The combination of Alan’s strong production background and Christina’s dope style produced a line with a pretty-tomboy aesthetic and an effortless sense of cool.
Named after the prep school in J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, Pencey’s luxurious fabrics and innovative design quickly graced the silhouettes of celebrities and fashionista’s including: Katy Perry, Leighton Meester, Alessandra Ambrosio, Rihanna and Beyonce. Drawing from the verve of New York City, Pencey is inspired by the chic bohemia and beloved by the international Gypsy. Pencey appeals to a street smart, fashionable girl who can fit in with every crowd.
Shes well-traveled, independent and not afraid to experiment, explains Alan. “We don’t foresee two girls dressing the same way in Pencey, even though they may walk out of the store with the same items.”
Since its founding, Pencey has grown to encompass Pencey Standard a luxe collection of basics including tees, tanks, and dresses – Pencey Shoes, and in 2012, a collaboration with DJ Mia Moretti, Mia Moretti X Pencey.
